Middle School Grades 6th - 8th

The Academy at the Farm Middle School prides itself on its motto, “Work Hard, Play Hard!” We  believe in educating the “whole child” - where the development of a student’s character is as important as the growth of their academic abilities.    We offer a wide range of courses from core academics to a variety of electives.  Core academic classes include English Language Arts (ELA), Math, Science, and Social Studies at advanced and regular levels - including High School Algebra, Geometry and Spanish.

 

 For the current school year, the following electives are offered:

 ​

  • Guitar - Offers students an introduction to basic guitar skills.

  • Peer Counseling - Focuses on communication and leadership skills.

  • Critical Thinking - Enables students to develop learning strategies, critical-thinking skills, and problem-solving skills to enhance their performance in academic and nonacademic endeavors.

  • Introduction to Agriscience - Offers students an introduction to animal care and physiology.

  • Studio Art - Students explore media and techniques used to create a variety of 2-D artworks through developing skills in drawing, painting, printmaking, and collage.

  • Physical Education - This course provides exposure to a variety of movement opportunities and experiences for students.

  • Intensive Reading - Offers extra support in reading skills to students who need it.

  • Intensive Math - Offers extra support in math skills to students in 6th grade.

  • Spanish 1 and Spanish II - Possibility to earn a High school credit.

  • Exploration to Agriscience - The content includes but is not limited to agricultural literacy, importance of agriculture, the role of science, math, reading, writing, geography, history, and technology in agriculture, plants and animals, and sources of consumer goods from agriculture.

  • Orientation to Agriscience - The content includes but is not limited to agricultural literacy, importance of agriculture, the role of science, math, reading, writing, geography, history, and technology in agriculture, plants and animals, and sources of consumer goods from agriculture.

  • Fundamental of Agriculture Systems - The purpose of this course is to assist students in making informed decisions regarding their future academic and occupational goals and to provide information regarding careers in the Agriculture, Food and Natural Resource career cluster.

  •  Introduction to Keyboarding - Students with little or no prior experience develop fundamental piano techniques, learn to read music, apply basic music theory, and explore the role of keyboard music in history and culture. 

  • Hope Physical Education - The purpose of this course is to develop and enhance healthy behaviors that influence lifestyle choices and student health and fitness.
